My S/S 16 collection was inspired by the Danish fairytale, The Blue Jar, by Karen Blixen. In this story, a wealthy young English woman spends her life sailing around the world, searching for the perfect shade of rare blue china. The china represents her soul mate, a poor sailor who her father won’t allow her to marry. The collection captures her desperation as she sails from one country to the next searching for the one she loves. She slowly loses her former identity as she becomes one with the sea. To create this collection, I experimented with hand beading, crocheting, and fabric manipulation.
